Default Heated Steering Wheel?

Anyone know if a heated steering wheel has ever been retrofit into a 10th gen?

My question is where you going to find Ford splined steering wheel that has heat option? I don't think it exists. You might be able to go with an intermediate column shaft switch to the hexagonal hub that the new heated wheels have, but that would require a full disassembly and questions on if they would fit together????. I'm doubting that this particular mod will work very well, if at all. You would need a clockspring change to a Lincoln Navigator to give you the extra power line, but then there is the spline hub problem. I don't think this one is going to work too well. Guys are still trying, without luck, to add them into the GEN 11's, so I wish you luck.

Thanks, AK. I had no idea what the changeover might entail, and it sounds like a near impossibility. (And in retrospect, I suppose if it was relatively simple I'd have heard of it by now.) Guess I'll keep the gloves on.

I've a buddy who took a leather wrap and put inside it a tape they used to sell for the back window heater add on. He ran a line like in race cars for their switches, and it kept his hands warm. I thought it was ingenious, but a bit cumbersome laying around the column. When he took it off in the spring, he had 2 lines running around the wheel from the heater strips melting into the plastic wheel. It looked like a bunch of tiger stripes. lol

Shouldnt be a big deal

You can buy heater kits, and a shop that reupholsters leather wheels could incorporate it.

Clockspring would be most difficult

Its a very expensive idea. Getting wheel reuphostered is $250.

It can possibly be done without clockspring. I put add -on cruise control in 84 ranger once, had slack wire in column , worked fine.

Thanks for the additional info, mbb. Still more hassle (and expense) than I'd want to bear at this point, but good to know it *could* be done.
