Default Headlight Temp? Bulb Recommendations?

So I decided to fix my dad's 2001 f150 up a little. It has had minimal use for two years. Something 1st on the list was swapping the headlights. The passenger side was melted and had two bulb connectors anyways,
Is it normal for bulbs to get that hot? I turned them on after removing the old ones and it burned some of the bumper within like a minute lol whoops.
Had Sylvania 9007 bulbs

Not common. Good thing is replacement lenses are around a hundred bucks.

I've never seen that before! Def not common. You can find stock head light housing on eBay for cheap

Yeah I ordered some for $80 and already have them but the header panel did not work for them. Really weird because I researched and it was a one-piece type headlight panel. I had to order a new header panel that is actually 10th gen. So I am just waiting on that but was curious to what bulbs to use since these get hot as **** in a minute. But they are the correct ones on according to autozone. So its probably normal for them to run hot

I'm guessing it wasn't properly installed and sat on the plastic. Were the retainers in one piece or broken? You should get new retainers with the replacement lens. Might even include new bulbs too. 9007 is a common high/low beam headlight.

Yes those do get very hot. That's why it's recommended you use nitrile or latex gloves when handling them to avoid getting skin oil on the bulb. The bulb super heats and boils the oil causing the glass to shatter....and it's such a small amount of oil too.
