Default Headlight question

I'm helping putting projector headlights in my friends 98 lariat f150. When you pull the headlights on it the whole bucket with the parking light comes out. But on my other friends 97 the light comes seperatly from the parking lamp and doesn't have the plastic bucket.

Now my problem is the lights look like they will work in the 97 but not the 98. Were the lights changed over the one year? Or are the lariats different? Can anyone explain this to me

That sounds weird. I know in my 02 they are two seperate units. I swapped mine out and going fromm a two piece to a one piece was a royal pain in the .

I don't think the Lariat would be different. Maybe you have the years wrong? Did he buy the truck used? Are they OEM lights?

Sorry I couldn't be more help, but it's a free bump anyways.

Yeah it confused me and everyone else around here. He knows the original owner and it has never been in an accident. Got the lights to fit fine now but I'm still wondering why it's like that. Thanks for your help though
