Default Header Recommendations

Hey guys,

Just what the title says. I'm looking for recommendations for headers. I have a 97 4x4 5.4. I ran LT's on my 2004 GTO and LOVED them! I'd like to get some for my truck if they're worth it (and if someone makes them). I am new to the Modular Engine crowd as I have had mostly LS1/LS2 cars up until now. I guess what I'm asking is do Modular engines like shorties better or longtubes better? I don't plan on ever going forced induction but I would like to go with a h/c swap at some point. I'm not sure if it makes a difference with the modular whether I use LongTubes or Shorties like it does with the LS1/LS2 motors but I am curious (The general rule of thumb with LSX engines is go shorties with forced induction, go LongTubes with all motor power. I used search but couldn't come up with anything. I've seen some cheap headers on summit and JcWhitney but I want to hear from guys who are running headers now. Money is no object for quality headers. I bought excellend headers for my GTO and they were still a bitch to install.

Thanks in advance!

Well, i still have stock manifolds. I was looking at long tubes since that is pretty much what I have always used and have always liked over the shorties. Except for one car which was a 98 stang gt with the 2V 4.6L i had the ford shorties on there. As far as sound went it didnt sound the like any other 4.6 stang i ever heard which was nice. and did add a little power but nothing to write home about. Also had 2.5" catless H pipe and dual flows dumped before rear axle. Not a truck though. I personally will be going with long tubes when the time comes. That's me. I bet with a tuner, CAI (gotts!), headers (shorties or long tubes), and exhaust you will see some decent overall gains. Sorry, not much help from me just an opinion.

I've installed Long tube headers on my 1999 4x4 5.4l, I haven't finished the exhaust yet so I can't give you much advice on the performance yet.

One of my manifolds was leaking so it was a repair/upgrade.

Thanks guys! That helps a lot. Alien, where did you get your headers from? I can't find any for our trucks.
