Default head gasket

I need to change the head gasket on my 1999 Ford F-150, 4.6L 6 cylinder, and I want to do it my self but I can't find a good video that explains me on how to do it. Or if I go the route on having it done by a mechanic how much would it cost me?

$1400-2,000 on the low end. A local shop charges 4k and pulls the cab, let's just say they don't like doing them.

Its easier to swap engine , but it can be done.
The question is....is your truck worth putting $2000 into, and still have old tired engine afterwards? I didnt think I wanted to spend that and still have 200k mile engine.

This is where you make choices. I put an engine in, my brother scrapped his and got new truck.

I dont think paying someone to change hgs on these trucks is ever a real good option.

Doing it yourself...is the #1 option

That's a 4.2 pedro....unless you stroked it.

If it's a head gasket fail, yea it's not worth the effort. They don't fail unless it's hurt and mistreated to begin with. No known head gasket problems for the ESSEX engines. Those are a dime a dozen anyway.
