Default Great MPG!!

Well on my trip down to Truth or Consequences, NM. I averaged 19 mpg. the highest i got was 23mpg. I am quite impressed with what a straight pipe and the GOTTS with a K&N Did, I highly reccomend it.

And yes before anyone asks, these were all hand calculated using a GPS for miles, and filling it to the flap of the filler neck at every fill up to ensure accuracy.

That is great gas mileage.
I just checked mine, and it is 14 in the city which is normal.
I don't lead foot it.
The last highway check my highest was 18 MPG.
I have a 4.2 with a 5 speed and I love it.
The stock 150's all get about the same gas mileage.
Are you running stock tires?

Before my 4.6 threw a valve and destroyed my engine a few weeks ago, I was averaging 19 highway and 16 in town. I was sitting on 31"x10" tires. I dont lead foot it too often and I gave it regular maintenance and tune-up every 9-12 months whether needed or not.
Its a 1997 4x4 with 3.55 gears, pretty much all stock.

Are you running stock tires? I have a reg cab with the 4.2 5 speed and I'm getting around 13 in town and ecstatic if I can pull 15 mpg on the highway. I do have 305 70 16's MT MTZ which hurts me a little but I've never been able to get 18mpg.

That is so close it is probably just the way we drive that makes the difference. I use Lucas upper cylinder lubricant in the gas which claims to increase mileage and in my experience it actually does (it also makes my engine happy, I can tell). I have a K&N air filter, stock tires, I use 10w30 oil, but MOST IMPORTANT - I always use the back roads and NEVER do over 60 MPH on highways. When you do over 55-60 MPH your gas mileage drops dramatically. As an actual example (from consumer organization tests) a car that gets 30 MPG on the highway at 55-60 gets 24 MPG at 70 MPH and less for every increase of 3 MPH after that. Almost all vehicles get their best gas mileage at 55 MPH.
Use a back road on your next highway trip, don't do over 55 or 60, and I bet you get 18 MPG. Remember, your tires may throwing the trip meter off so if you can, use a GPS device for speed and miles calculations.

I have a bone stock 99 f150 4.6 V8 with 245/75/16's and got 22 mpg on a 200 mile trip. The kicker was that I averaged about 80-90 and there was no wind :O

On that same trip I had a wicked headwind (on the way there, diff day) and I got 13 mpg going 70-80
