Default Good Programming/Performance Chips

I have a 97 5.4L and want to hear what you guys have to say about Programming Chips or Performance Chips. I mainly want to get more MPG!! and slightly better hauling performance. I'm not trying to spend more than about 250 bucks though. So if you guys can let me know what products might be best for me, leave a comment please. Thanks!

SCT or Edge for the F series are most popular. You will have to find a used unlocked unit though for budget of $250. Can be done, just may take a bit of looking.

Specifically for SCT, you would want a SF3 3015 model tuner which would come with three preloaded tunes on it, 87, 91 and 93 octane tunes and can hold up to ten custom tunes.

Bear in mind though primary purpose of a tuner is more horsepower and torque and MPG gains are secondary and largely dependant on HOW you drive primarily.

On older vehicles the Programer is almost useless because it can only reprogram the Shift Firmness. Go to autoanything site. Be sure to put all vehicle info including Submodel. It should show what the progrramer can adjust.

Example:
Hypertech Max Energy Programmer
Additional Information

Premium octane estimated power gains: 13 hp and 27 ft. lbs. torque
Regular octane estimated power gains: hp and ft. lbs. torque
Adjustment capablities:
Power tuning: 93 octane
Shift points: No
Shift firmness: Yes
Rev limiter: No
Top speed limiter: No
Set tire size: No
Rear gear recalibration: No
Fan adjustment: No
Check & clear trouble codes: No

The Fuel Level is Secret to get more MPG..
You will get more than 33 MPG if you keep the tank full.

That's a Proven FACT.
There is a little Dirty Secret why the Fuel Pump is inside the Tank

I have this one: http://www.sctflash.com/products.php?PID=2&VID=579

It's been great so far! I get 2 MPG more and my shift points are firmer. If you hot rod it, you'll get less MPG but if you just drive it normal, your MPG's increase. I like it so far and when we vacationed for Spring Break, I set max speed to either 20 or 30 MPH so that if it gets stolen, they'll ditch the truck!
