I have a 97 ford f150 4wd. i wanted to change my ring and pinion set from the stock 3.55s to a 4.56 or 4.88. Do i need reverse cut gears for the front diff or what? also is the front a dana or ford? i cant tell. thanks

 

Front is likely a ford 8.8, and yes front gears are going to be reverse cut I believe, hopefully someone with a bit more expertise will chime in, I'm looking into re-gearing myself.

 

Yes,the fe is an 8.8. you will need reverse cut gears. I put 4.56s in my 2002 F150.

 

rus- with the 4.56's what kinda rpms you turn on the highway at 60mph? what size tires you have?

 

I run 315 75 16s 34.5 inch tall tires.
At 70 in od about 2400 rpm

 

Same tire I have, been pondering 4.10's or 4.56's, just cant decide... don't wanna kill the MPG too bad
