Default Gear shift indicator points to wrong position

I have a 1998 F150 and a 2002 Expedition. In the last year, the gear indicator on both have slipped and point more clockwise than the actual gear the vehicle is in. Talking to some other folks, this seems to be a well-known mode of degradation. I want to see how difficult it is to fix myself. Are there any links anyone can direct me to? Thanks!

Did it this past sunday. The broken white piece was broken as is the case for many. I just used some zip ties on the bottom piece of the plastic that was not broken.

This is also a common problem.

It's a nuisance fix. You have to remove the covers from the steering column to get to it.
Not difficult just a nuisance.

Repaired the one on my 97 Explorer with Gorilla super glue and duct tape.
Haven't gotten around to fixing my 02 F-150 yet.

If you'd rather replace it, get new. The junkyard parts are subject to be as brittle as yours is. It's a common issue.
