Default Gear question...

On the 98 f150s with the 8.8, are the gears standard rotation or reverse?

I would assume the fronts are reverse and the rears standard. Correct me if Im wrong.

I have a set of ford racing 4.10 gears that I originally purchased for my mustang but that since has been sidetracked and is slowly being built. Now I can use them in the rear of the truck for sure but what about the front? Do I need standard or reverse rotation ring and pinon gears?

yes standard rotation in the back reverse rotation in the front however there is a carrier change at around 3.90 for the front

Carrier change? Why would the carrier have to be changed out to go from a 3.55 to a 4.10? I could understand a lower gear ration being different.

Please Explain

not sure the reason but when i was looking for new gears i was told the highest numerically i could go on the stock carrier was 3.73 (I was looking for 4.10) if i wanted the 4.10 gears i would have to replace the entire carrier

Every search I have done has put that as a myth. I just did some research on it to check it out. They say the 8.8 didnt have any carrier cutoff.
