ILL EFFECTS IN THE SNOW...
Ya know when you take off from a stop light in 4wd, or try to power through a turn, SOMETIMES the whole truck will slide sideways (as opposed to just the rear end in 2wd) if you accelerate too hard. With front and rear truetracs, the whole truck WILL pull sideways as you take off. Nothing you can't alleviate by taking off and driving slower.
With the open front diff, usually one wheel will get the power while the other just rolls along and helps to keep the truck straight.
Basically, (as with anything) you just have to be aware of what you're driving, and you'll never have a problem. This is why vehicles don't come set up like this from the factory. Can you imagine trying to explain all this stuff to some people?

I see.. Being a Canada county boy I know how to drive in the snow ha ha. Hardly use 4by in the city unless we get a good snow...even then depends on how deep. I don't drive like *** and glass over the intersections! Good to know tho! Still Amazed how many people can't drive or still have their license in my town! Bad Bad drivers!!

Just wondering, was your rearend a 10.25?
My front is an 8.8, but I'm not sure what spline. I just want to lock the front because my rear is posi trac.

No the rear is a 9.75 but they did check to make sure as on ocassion it does happen the 10.25 gets put in. I called Detroit to see what they recommend for a front carrier. They said leave it as an open stock style. Now this is for driving around town so a different use like off road may include a different carrier. When 4X4 is engaged I have to traction or control issues for the use I give it.

My truck is mainly paved roads as well I only go to pull out my buddies and laugh at them. But I am considering making this truck my toy for after college so a lift kit an other things will come. But I did want to get the mechanical stuff done before installing one.
So you did leave your front stock?

Yeah it's stock except for the 4.88 gear ratio. I wanted to do it once and do it right. I tried a different ratio in the rear at first but changed it to 4.88. After calling Detroit I would have changed the front carrier also had they said to. Do it once and do it right for how I use it.
