fuse placement question - led's
Hey guys.
I purchased some led's that I am planning on installing to give the cab some glow while driving at night. I plan on splicing into a circuit that is active when the key is turned. taking that wire down to a switch.. when the switch is on it will wire to a potentiometer.. and from teh potentiometer it will wire to the LED's which will be in series. This will allow me to have the LED's come on when I turn the key on, and I can control their brightness as desired. However, here are my questions:
1. what would be a good circuit to tap into when teh key is turned. I know the cig lighter is always on, so not a good source, but not sure what other circuit would be useful.
2. where do I want to place my inline fuse? between potentiometer and leds? between switch and potentiometer? or between the circuit I splice into and the switch?
3. what amp fuse would be useful for 4 6-led lights?
hope i gave enough info - let me know if you have any questions. really looking forward to your responses. thanks

I know y'all can help as i've seen a lot of LED swap posts... and i'm shocked that a lot of people arent using potentiometers (dimmers).. maybe inlining to the dimmer switch? I'm thinking the inline fuse should be between the switch and potentiometer, or the switch and the circuit that I splice into. and maybe 10-15 amp fuse would work. just wanted some confirmation from someone who has worked with LED's and inline fuses.
You can splice into the radio wire, or there's a 12ga switched wire under the dash. Put the fuse close to the wire your drawing power from. A 7amp would probably work, I think that's what I have for my 2 foot smd led strip in my toolbox.
