Default fuse #5 blows when put into reverse.

So fuse number 5, 15 amp fuse for running lights reverse lamps and climate control, became open. From trouble shooting I narrowed the problem down to when truck is put into reverse the fuse blows. I looked at the harness down the drivers frame rail but can't see any obvious wear. Any insight in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure you have the correct back up bulbs installed and not a double filament. If you have the wrong bulb, it will short the fuse out. Not always, but usually. I'd check them first and foremost.

I haven't replaced the bulbs recently. But I will check anyways. Will try anything to fix the problem.

I had that problem. Look for the wiring harness from the transmission switch touching the exhaust some place. Mine was against the EGR tube on the passenger side manifold down under the battery. I got lucky and tied it up away and all has been good. Getting to it to fix the bear wire will be tuff. but I haven't had to do that so far.

Default Fuse 5, only in reverse

My experience. Pull the connector at the transmission selector switch. Pull the connector behind the driver's side wheel,on the frame apart. Put a new fuse in.

Time to test. Key on. You should have 12 volts on the blue w pink wire, left row 4 down. That connects to the black w pink through the switch. If you have ground on black n pink (left,2 down), the short is between trans connector and the rear connector.(like mine).

If you want reverse lights, cut the black w pink two or so inches from trans connector, splice new wire from there, in a protective loom, down to the rear connector. If you dont care about the lights, just cut and protect the end..now enjoy your ac and blend door.

Hope this helps someone.

Splice @ rear.

Short/ground @ rear connector.

Connector @ trans shift. Left row 2nd pin down is black w pink. Test for ground/short w meter, test light (hooked to positive) or power probe.

Find black w pink(i think its 3rd from right, lower center row). Test for ground(if u get a ground thats bad)
