Default Fuel pump running

My fuel pump keeps on running after the vehicle is shut off. I originally thought it was a fan. I unplugged the wires to avoid drainging the battery and when I plugged it back in at the end of the day the truck wouldn't start. I have read other sites that said it could be a bad relay, any suggestions? Did I make a big mistake by unplugging the wires to the pump?

Do you hear the pump running for 2-3 seconds on initial key on? (no start) As far as pump continually on, removing the relay should have opened the circuit. You have a couple things going on here. Could be related or not. Where do we stand right now?

I replaced the fuel pump relay and it is still running. It didn't shut off when I removed the old relay. I am at a loss here.... I tried the reset button on the passenger side but it was already pressed in. I had to jump it off my work vehicle to get it started.
