Question Fuel Guage Fluctuation?

I was cruising around the other day and out of nowhere my gas guage needle started to fluctuate. I right about a 3/4 tank and periodically on the drive it would drop to half, work back up to 3/4, drop 1/8, work back up, and so on. Seemed to be no rhyme or reason why or how far it dropped. Was about a 25min drive and several elevation changes. No changes is feel or drivability the whole time and was the only guage fluctuating. Also it has not done it since, and did not do it on the same drive back. Ive got a '99 4x4 with a 5.4, 26 gallon tank, and auto transmission. Has any one had this happen, know what could have cause it, or if this is something to be weary of?

mine seems to do that alot too. ive got the 98 xlt with 5.4 v8 in it, and the fuel gauge goes up and down quite a bit. it will sometimes say low fuel too but will sometimes go away. i guess its just normal

Check the wire connections behind the gauges, had the same problem in my other car, ended up being a loose wire in the gauge cluster
