Default Front grill

So I saw this real great new grill and the manufacturer indicated it would fit once I received I notices that the grill looked fabulous but would not fit because of my bumper configuration. My 1997 is a flairside and the front bumper is smooth and not indented to allow this grill to fit property. I would like to know from you guys if a 1999 front bumper will fit on a 1997 XLT. I really like the grill and would think about trying to get a 1999 bumper if it will fit with no complications. I know you are the guys to contact.

Yes, it will fit. I am sure @akdoggie can provide you with more precise details than I can. I know of a couple things you'll need to know. Your fog lights (if you have them) will not fit the 99-04H bumper. I also know the tow hooks either don't work, or require modification. Depending on when your truck was manufactured, you may also need to update the headlight header panel. The early 97's are different. Can you give us the date of manufacture (it will be the month and year) that is on the white sticker on the drivers door jamb? Hopefully it's a 7/96 or later. It will look like this:

On my Red 98, I did the swap last summer to the 99 up front header and bumper. I didn't have to do anything but bolt it on. Nothing needed changing with the tow hooks.

Like Whitey said, the lower lights in the valance are different in 99 up but if you get a 99 up bumper with lights, the only difference is the pig tails for the fogs. 9005 vs 9006. You can either change out the pigtails or just cut a slot in the originals and they will plug in without problems.

It was simple.

my door reads 5/96 one of the early models produced I would imagine. I have in the past had to alter a few things to make them fit but all in all they look great, I have had her since she was new. thanks for all of the your help. I will be sending this gorgeous grill back they have indicated that their post was not correct for which year it would fit. It looks great. If I had a 99 or up I would have this grill on it. Made it look like a Navigator. thanks again.
