Default Front end grinding?

I have a '01 Screw 4x4, 83k miles. Whenever I take off from a stop with the front wheels turned I notice a momentary (~1 sec or so) grinding sensation that comes through the steering wheel. Don't really hear anything--just feel it. Doesn't do it if going straight. Any ideas???

have you checked the CV shafts for excessive play?

Also check the wheel bearings. When the sealed hub starts to go they make grinding noises and transfer some vibration through the steering wheel.

I feel that very same thing, although I can feel it coming through the seats when i turn ... so i'm figuring it's the in the rear somewhere..

I haven't changed my gear oil in the back since i bought this thing, so i'm gonna look at doing that first...plus it'll allow me to take a look at the gears too.
