Default Front bumper question

Hey gals and gals... I have an 01 screw and have a question in regards of bumper. I tried the search feature but no threads came up. So here is my question. I found a lightning bumper "cover" and was wondering what is needed to install one? I have the chrome steel one with the top and bottom being plastic. The other bumpers I have seen are all plastic. Are they different? Is it just a cover and it's just like mine underneath? Do I need another bumper style to be able to put that cover or for that matter any other cover? The one from the Harley Davidson is also nice but all plastic and I don't know what the difference is or if the whole unit has to be swapped out? I hope I made sense and if anyone can point me in the right direction I will be GREATFUL... Thanks

Looking in my parts book, both the 99 lightning and XL (painted face bar} use the same number Yl3Z17757CAA. I don't believe that there is any difference in the chrome and painted bars in design, so it should work for that piece. The mounting brackets are the same for 2WD but different for 4WD. Hope that helps you some.

Thanks for the reply akdoggie. I always thought all where different but got confused because of the different colors. Never knew they all where steel. I wasn't about to go up to someones truck to tap their bumper...prone to get my *&^ shot by the owner. The reason why I was looking into this is b/c when my father had the truck he built a tow-bar to haul it back and forth from Texas to Florida and drilled 4 (1") holes in it to get the bolts through. Home made stuff So my plan was to take the chrome off, fill the small holes with my welder and just paint it white to match the truck and get the lightning or harley lower lip spoiler. So thanks again for the info buddy.

I've never had a Lightning front apart so I really don't know how it goes together, per se, but the Crash Book says the bar is the same as the XL or the Sport, but painted. I see the cover as a one piece lower cover, so it must go under the bar. It makes sense that they would have a metal bar there, so I hope that everything goes as planned.

You didn't say if you had a 2wd or 4wd. That made a difference in certain mounting brackets, left vs right in the 4wd, same brackets, per side with the 2wd. Good luck.
