Yea, just tie that Temp sensor into a coolant line w/barbed brass T fitting.

BTW- you shouldn't have to screw with the front cover.

Default update

well so far I have put a few hours in this week and have taken the exhaust manifold, engine mounts, timing chain cover and harmonic balancer, valve covers, oil pan, siphon, and dipstick off the 2000 f150 and transferred them to the 04 Crown Vic PI 4.6. I stripped the 04 4.6 of all mounts, covers, oil pan and exhaust manifold. The parts all swap over perfectly the only issue I ran into was that the HDR wheel ( I believe thats what it is called) on the crown vic engine is smaller and the 00 is much beefier but wont fit with the 00 timing chain cover. I had to leave the crown vic wheel on but swapped the sensors from the 04 onto the 00 timing chain cover. I think that this setup will work fine as the sensors are the same. I figured that I would use newer sensors for 1 because the wheel and sensor already work together and they are newer. The mounts are all the same. The reason that I had to swap covers was because the crown vic belt and setup wont drive my 00 truck accessories. I put all new gaskets and some new studs in after drilling the two rear with cracked off because of the heat . Both engines rear exhaust manifold studs were broken prior to me taking them off in the same spots so I think its an issue with 4.6's. Tomorrow is the big day and the engine is going in finally!!

Default thanks Jbrew

I am gonna use your T fitting technique when I start hooking everything back up after I get the motor installed! I have heard of people drilling into the aluminum and I am not willing to run the risk of cracking the manifold.

Right, you could Tig in a bung or pipe fitting, since Ford uses ordinary pipe threads on most of those type sensors.

For a time, guys adding blowers were using JB Weld as a build material before a drilling/tapping the manifold.

Simpler just to use a hose tho, like I said earlier.

He is not doing a PI head swap, he is doing a complete engine, so he will get 40hp, and about 10 ft torque. I myself have PI head swapped NPI 5.4.

Default setback

Well I was hoping to put the engine in today and I did for a little while. When I went to bolt on the torque convertor I was not happy when I discovered that the crown vic mounting points are set differently. The lesson learned check the flywheel because you have to swap the 00 or truck flywheel to make it work. I am now an expert on pulling the engine so it should go fast tomorrow, very frustrating!!

Any Updates? I am looking to go to a built long block PI engine in my 97. I was kind of curious about the timing chain cover, hopefully everything will transfer over. I thought I remember hearing something about the threads were different between 97 and +2001 (12mm to 14mm)?

Default timing chain cover

I have run into an issue with the motor I purchased, a rookie mistake. I didn't spin the engine when I bought it and wasn't able to on the stand. Then when I installed the motor it turned over 270 degrees and locked hard when installing the torque converter bolts. I just thought it was a compression stroke. Wrong! I had everything put back together and when I went to start it the starter locked up. I then went and replaced the starter, removed plugs to check for hydrolock, separated the transmission to see if I broke and locked up the transmission pump. The last thing I did is remove the valve covers and timing chain cover and it appears out of thime, so before I take the heads off to check for damage or foreign objects I called the guy I got the motor from to try and get a replacement. Back to square 1.
