Default ford 4.6 npi to pi long block swap

I have a 2000 f150 with a 4.6 npi and the engine bit the dust. I found a 04 crown vic pi 4.6 with 50k on it for a good price and want to put it in my 00. So far I bought a 2001 pi f150 complete intake manifold/plenum and am hoping to swap the rest of my 2000 equipment onto the block. Can I use the 2000 harness and just get my computer flashed? Has anyone else done a swap like this? I am trying to get a good picture on what other difference there are or if it is going to be a nightmare. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I do not think there is much that is needed besides a re-tune for the PI heads. Just make sure all of the sensors and other parts are in the exact same location and exact same sensors.

If I remember the swap, Reddraggon has it right. Just make sure to use the sensors from your engine if there is any difference between the 2000 and the 04's. Keep it at the 2000 set up and you should be good to go as far as the install. I don't remember what was said about the tune, but I think there may be a knock sensor difference so you may want to keep the harness and computer available. You may have to put a part of the 04 harness in to make everything work.

There is a write up on this Forum about the PI head/engine upgrade. Take a look in the 97-03 section and search for it. It comes up. Good luck.

As far as I know, it's all the same, except PI engines used lower compression pistons with bigger combustion chambers, and those together raised the compression from the NPI motors, but other than that intake is different. Should bolt right up are they both romeo blocks or what?

Should be straight up but I'm ast a stopping point on mine... 2wd has a sensor on the oil filter bracket that the 4wd doesn't have since they use different brackets

Also the exhaust manifold exits are slightly different. The PI manifold has a larger flange. Also the port size is larger so swapping npi manifolds is a waste.

No comp flash required, you have enough to make it all come together easily. Some 2000's had packs, some had COP systems. Most had COP systems I believe. Just keep it the same as before, - use your orig PCM and harness. I thought only the 3V's had dual knock sensors, but I could be wrong.

BTW, you'll have an increase of 11 hp 27 torque. Not bad. Torque is what you want.

There is difference PSM calibrations. The PI engine have a very different Timing curve over the NPI engines. When I was running NPI I would see close to 44* total timing advance. When I swapped to a PI setup the max total timing is closer to 34*...

Default thanks for the response everyone

Thanks for the info everyone. So far I have pulled the old 4.6 romeo npi and have the 04 pi on a stand stripped down. Now its time to see what will transfer over. I picked up an 01 f150 intake assembly since the intake ports are larger on the pi engine. The connectors appear very similar to my 2000 so I should be good I have heard there is an extra temp sensor on the 2000 harness so I may have to tie it in. I will need a truck front cover for the crown vic engine to run my accessories, im hoping to just use my 2000 cover but I will have to verify the water lump and alternator position. If it wont work im going back to the salvage yard for a 2001+ f150 cover. I have the exhaust manifolds off the new engine but ran out of time to get them off my old npi motor to compare, im crossing my fingers for them to fit along with the cover. The knock sensor is the same on both so that's off the list. I noticed the power steering pump had 4 bolts for mounting and my 00 had 3 so ill have to look into that. I will have more answers next week and hopefully less questions!! Im going to have to look into how or if I should flash the comp? Thanks again everyone and ill post some updates next week.
