Default Flashed? or Not Bad MPG

Hi all,

I have recently bought a 97 F150 4X4 XLT Supercab. Trying to find out if it has been flashed or not. How would I go about that. Just seems my MPG is really really bad. Like 12. Motor runs great. New Dynamax exhaust, New Cats and O2 sensors, New heads. Just bad mileage.

Any Ideas

How bad are we talking and have you figured your mileage long hand?

12 is not bad if that is your true mpg.

Mind you the 97/98 trucks were rated very low.. I still have the window stickers for 97 4wd and the 97 2wd i had. The 4wd is rated @ 11/14. The 2wd i had was rated @13/17

"Like 12" is about right. But you need to figure out what it really is, not what it is like.
This truck was designed and built when gas was still under a dollar/gallon and nobody cared about the gas mileage of a truck.
You never said what gears you have, which engine/transmission or what size tires either.

Hey I'm happy when I pull 12.

For city or even mixed driving you're right in the ball park. Being flashed or not being flashed doesn't matter as you won't gain or lose noticable mpg anyway.

Also remember the EPA rating for these truck was before gasoline had ethanol in it. You lose about 10-15% of the economy with ethanol.
