Just did this fix on my truck. Worked like a charm so far. Cost me .25 for the o rings, and took about 30 min. Good write up!

Well, mine worked for a couple days. It's back to going to defrost during accel. But before Max A/C never blew through the vents. At least now it does if I keep a light foot. Still better than it was.

Default EATC defrost

I followed the simple instructions on replacing the o-rings in my 2002 F150 and that fixed the defrost problem. I've been trying to figure out this probelm for almost 2 years and FINALLY got it taken care of. Now if i can figure out why when it rains extremely hard that the driver side floor board collects water. I can see the water dripping from underneath the dash but when i test for leaks on the windshield and windshield wiper area i cant seem to duplicate the leak. Any suggestions? I have seen many posts about the windshield needing to be resealed but i dont think that is the issue for some reason.

I have a 2002 F-150 that had the same issue until I did this. Total time spent, including picking up the o-rings, an hour. The instructions were a huge help! This was an issue I had been going round and round with the Ford dealership about for nearly a year, them wanting me to replace the module, only $500+ labor! I refused to pay that kind of money for something that was/is this simple!

Great post, well worth the few minutes it to to make the repair! I now have air blowing where "I" want it now! LOL!

Just did this to my truck, seems to be working good now. Glad I found the forum, I arrived here looking for some help on a brake problem and my truck recently started doing the defrost thing. So two things broke and two things fixed. Dealer cost on both issues -$1600. My cost $360.

Also have some extra o-rings if anyone needs.

I've seen this problem also. Usually means additional vacuum leakage. Could be in another line or area but mine was in the EATC. It ended up having a small crack in the plastic vacuum housing which caused no build up of vacuum in the accumulator (vacuum storage). When accelerating the engine vacuum drops and with no accumulated vacuum left for the EATC it will reverts to defrost (default mode).
