Default First Ford owned, couple of issues.

Back in March, I bought my first Ford F150, 5.4L 4x4. I've owned several trucks, Nissan, Toyota, and Chevrolet. I owe a big thanks to several coworkers, because I love the truck. It has power and the interior hasn't began falling apart...like the Chevy's did. The only thing that's baffled me about it is the location of the oil filter, being mounted on the back side of the bumper instead of the block.

As of now, the truck is, as far as I know, completely stock.

There is a ticking noise. It's an annoyance, but seems to be nothing to worry about. I work with a few Ford owners and they all have the same thing going. It occurs upon start-up and doesn't stop. Is it something I should be concerned about?

Another thing is a whistling sound during acceleration. Once it shifts out and I maintain a constant speed, I don't hear it anymore. Once again, should I be concerned?

I'm interested in installing some aftermarket performance parts, but am at a loss because I don't know where to start. Any recommendations?

Happy truckin'!

the oil filter on my truck is up front like most vehicles they probaly put a relocation kit on for the oil filter its kind of a tight spot to be honest. The ticking could be the exhaust manifold the studs that ford used are not the greatest quality one of the nuts and part of the stud holding the exhaust manifold rusted off mine and now mine has started ticking really not the most important thing to worry about if that is it. If thats not it i would try to find it just to make sure its not something important

Certain year model trucks came with the oil filter relocation under the bumper. The ticking noise is prolly the passenger side exhaust manifold gasket leaking due to broke flange studs. Skys the limit on mods for these trucks.....Exhaust would be the first place I started.....

Idk bout the oil filter but the ticking could be a loose plug...I've had two happen one blew out and one started to unthread itself and the air seeping thru mad a tick noise....food for thought but it take a couple min just to check em and make sure they're all tight...listen to where its comin from and start on that side but congrats on purchasing a ford

Ticking could be a crack in the exhaust pipe on the drivers side. I had an annoying clicking noise when I accelerated, and that's what it was.

if ur truck is an off road series they had them under the bumper for better protection the ticking noise is probably just a lifter knock no need to worry and the whistling noise is probably just the intake
