Aside from the musty interior, it's going to basically be a new truck. I'm rather stoked to get it back!
Just get a really good dealer to steam clean it and it will be new all over.

I thought about that, but I think I'm going to go with leather and new padding. I'm planning to keep this truck for a long time, might as well do it right. Plus, I love leather interiors.

This is going to be a very nice truck when you are done.

Go to rentall place

Rent ozone generator, about $70 for a day

Treat vehicle, will smell clean when done

Best thing in world for smells,

Most publc places that allow smoking inside have a small one running somewhere discrete, but you want a good high output one, they cost $700 or so. Smaller just doesnt achieve same levels to shock treat and kill bacteria, etc. But inside of truck is small and would work with cheaper one likely.

I bought a vehicle once that had a horrible stench like wet dog, 4 hrs ozone, smelled great forever.

May try that. Thanks for the info. They have this one for sale at Home Depot. Any thoughts on it? I know absolutely nothing about them.

Well, today makes 3 weeks they've had the truck. I was supposed to get it back last Friday, but they hadn't even painted it at that point. I called Monday, and they had the cab in one booth and the bed in another being painted, and said it should be ready today. I called today, aaaaaannnnd it won't be ready till tomorrow. They have to wash and detail it and put the badges back on.

I saw it in the prep stages when I dropped off the new bumpers, and I think it's going to look great! For the price, I was genuinely surprised they pulled the bed. They had all of the trim and door handles off when I saw it, so they're not cutting corners at all. I fully expected for the price it would have been more of a "fix the dents and paint what's visible" kind of job, and honesty I was ok with that, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn they're doing it right. I should have the after pics tomorrow.

Depending on the final bill, I will probably go talk to a local upholstery shop about the leather and try to get the ball rolling on that if it's reasonable.

I know you have to be ready to have it back but they sound like they are doing it right.

Looking forward to seeing the "after" pics, myself! Did you go with the Ford silver, or something different?

I miss the leather of my Lariat, but the cloth in my XLT now is in great condition. I'm considering some neoprene seat covers to keep it that way, but might look into recovering them, too. Since your going that far, have you considered replacing the carpet while you're at it?

And I'm sorry about you losing your dad, but it sounds like you have some good memories .

Andy

I went with the Ford silver from that year. I replaced the carpet a few months ago. That was a pain in the backside, but it looks so much better.

I'm definitely ready to have it back, simply because I want it back, but I have a car that I drive most of the time so it's not like I'm renting a vehicle or anything. They can take as long as they need if they're doing it right, which they are. I would like to be able to get some stuff out of my storage this weekend, but if it's not ready it's not ready.
