A dab of gasoline on a shop rag will take it right off.

If you are uneasy about gas on paint, keep a wet rag nearby to wipe the gas off afterwards. I've never had any issues using gas

3M adhesive remover is what I've always used. Just be careful b/c it can take some paint off

When I got my windows tinted they pulled off my window visors and left that white double sided tape all over the black weather stripping. Using goo-gone, or adhesive remover was basically worthless when I did it. The best thing that I found to remove it was to get a very sharp blade, and heat it up a little bit and just carefully cut it off. You are putting new guards on afterwards, so it doesn't have to be perfect. Just make sure that it is even all the way across because the plastic guards don't like to bend very much.
