Default exhaust tips

This might be a dumb question but will exhaust tips make a difference in sound? Or are they just for show?

No, tips won't make any discernible difference in sound. Just depends on what you like looks wise. I'm swapping my single cut tip out for a twin double walled angle cut tip when I get my exhaust on soon.

Yes, tips CAN make a difference in the sound. If you go from say a 2.5" or 3" pipe to a 4" tip, the tip will deepen the tone of the exhaust note. However, the smaller the difference between the entry diameter and the exit diameter, and the shorter the length of the tip is, the less noticeable the effect will be. Also bends, branches (1 to 2) or turndowns will decrease the effect. Something like this tip from Gibson, will definitely make a difference in the tone.

Something like this tip from Flowmaster will have very little effect.

If you go from a smaller to larger tip, ie 2.5 inch pipe to 4 inch tip, that can have an affect on the sound that's true I forgot. But 99% of people wouldn't notice the difference as its not much at all.

I may be wrong but, the diameter of the tip affects how "deep" and the "echo-like" the sound is. But no, there is not an INCREDIBLE amount of sound difference

Looking at exhaust tips gets intensive quickly. Theres single walled, double walled, and resonated. Anyone know the difference in sound between these three? I know the diameter and length affect the sound. But the websites say that the construction affects the sounds too. I'm getting surface rust on my tips and will be looking to replace them in a little while. Any help is appreciated.

I guess my question is. Is there a noticeable enough sound difference between the constructions to warrant paying the higher prices for the double wall or the resonated/intercooled?
