Default Overdrive issues

I dropped the pan and filter today. Removed the valve body and expected to find pieces of a broken clip but didn't see anything. What else would cause my 03 f 150 is not shift into overdrive. The wiring looks good. The light for overdrive works as it should. If I don't turn off the overdrive when it shifts through this gears it feels like it shifts into neutral.
help please

You might need overdrive rebuilt. Do the RPMS fall when it shifts into overdrive? Or its neutral like stage?

Correct. When it shifts to overdrive it is like it shifts into neutral. How do you rebuild the overdrive

Take it to a transmission shop. Over drive isnt like your other gears. It's more complex

I had purchased the truck to resale. Bought a cheap enough. Really don't want to spend the money to have it rebuilt. Most people around here just want to rebuild and not repair. Cheapest I found was 1250 if I take it out and take it to him

I paid $1600 to have the transmission rebuilt in my previous 2004 back in 2017. They pulled it out, rebuilt it and put it back in. I could have pulled it and put it back in myself but I didn't have the time to do it. Would have taken longer for the truck to get back on the road. $1250, That's not a bad offer. Even if you have to take it out yourself

The 4R70W transmission has had a history of overdrive band issues.

Yep. My cousin had the overdrive go out on his truck at around 70k miles. But he was also towing in overdrive all the time and that's not good on it
