Exhaust Issue
i have 2 1997 f150's. both are teal green ext. cab 3 door, 1 is 4x4 with 5.4 and the other is 2wd with 4.6. im in the process of putting louder exhaust on both of them. the 4x4 had a 40 series flow already on it but is quieter than the 2wd with stock exhaust. well i cut from in front of the muffler back off both trucks. The 2wd is alot louder. Sounds real good but kinda raspy. the 4x4 couldnt even tell i cut it off. do yall think exhaust is plugged somewhere...??? if you drive it and punch it, sounds like a jet thrushing air thru the pipe... Any help would be appreciated. i figure the 5.4 should be as loud as the 4.6 anyway.. im puzzled
thanks
thanks

my 2002 5.4L f150 is a lot quieter than my previous 2001 4.6L f150. I think the 5.4 is just quieter in general. I only had a SI/DO muffler with tailpipes and small slant edge tips on the 4.6 and it roared! I had to go true duals on the 5.4 to get any sound. I know what you mean. When I first got the 5.4, I cut the exhaust in front of the muffler and it had no sound at all either. I now have true duals behind the stock cats (all four still) with no crossover, small dynomax bullets, tailpipes, then 18 inch long x 4 inch diameter rolled edge tips coming out the back. It sounds beefy, but it was a lot more involved than the ole 4.6 was to get some sound out of it. I think I may delete the bullets too in the future to get a few more decibels, without having to touch the cats...the problem is I have to have mufflers (and cats for that matter) here in st. louis to pass inspection...booooo!!!
