i have a 97 f150 with a y piped catback flowmaster exhaust to duals out the back, i heard of some people removing the 2 rear cats off because there is four, would removing the 2 big cats give better sound and make it louder and not effect the performance of my truck?

There's a ton of threads about taking out the rear cats. Better sound no, more sound yes. Don't gut them, replace with 2.5" pipe or high flows and performance won't suffer. You might have to do the Gott's O2 mod if a CEL comes up.

ive looked at some threads most ppl have said they dont effect codes, would it effect the sound? i like how it sounds just a little louder, would this do the trick?

I just took a saw zaw and went to work, then drove to the muffler shop and had them weld in new pipe. It cost less 60.00 to do. And that all went to the muffler shop. If you know how to weld, you can buy exhaust pipe at the autoparts store.

whats a gotts o2 mod? and if a code does come up is it a big deal or is it something i can let go and get around too when i have time?

90% of people don't have codes thrown because the front cats are up to snuff. If you do get a code you can let it go until you get time. The tone might change slightly and volume will increase. Here's the O2 mod just in case:
