Default Exhaust

Looking for a new exhaust for my truck. 5.4L screw. I want something with a deep rumble at idle and pretty loud but not too raspy. Want a dual coming out in front of the rear passenger tire with 3.5inch tips so I'm gonna get it custom bent. What should I go with though as far as muffler/cat/piping?

Go with straight pipes from the manifolds all the way out with no cats or mufflers. My bro has it on his 04 screw with the 5.4 and its crazy loud and deep but not very raspy.

FLOWMASTER, straight pipes can cause trouble, and causes the check engine light to come on, plus no cats=trouble getting it inspected and trouble with cops, my dad had dual straights on his f-250 6.0 and it was sick, don't get me wrong they sound awesome, but they can cause trouble, I have a flowmaster original 40 on my 4.6 and it definitely turns heads when I want it to, but isn't insanely loud to get people or the cops mad!!! Good luck, I love my flowmaster!!

I'd like to keep some backpressure with a cat/muffler or at least an H pipe

Mine has a Flowmaster 40 series single with no cats. You could do the same set up but get a si/do and it would sound close. Here's a sound clip

That sounds nice did you put that on yourself or find a shop that would cut out the cats for you?

It came with the Flowmaster and 2 cats already off and I had my local shop cut the other two off after they went bad.
