Evap and Catalyst Drive Cycle "OFF" the Ground
Hello guys yes I am new to the site and yes you read the thread post rite! I have the same deal everyone else has with the evap and catalyst monitors will not complete... I have done everything under the sun to try to get them ready with no luck. I wont bore you with any of that since i'm sure you have all read it many times. I have an 01 f150 5.4 crew cab it has aftermarket headers, i am unsure of the brand. Also magnaflo direct fit cats and again i'm unsure of the exhaust muffler but all of it is new within a year. I ummm,, have some licence issues,,, and i have tried the drive cycle a few times with my girlfriend. The truck is 45 days out of the ten day NYS inspection, as she was informed of the other day while pulled over by the State trooper. We cant really afford to be playing around on the highway anymore. My question is... get ready this its going to be exciting..... Can i jack this truck up off the ground completely? Yes completely meaning all four tires off of this earth that we all live on. Set up cribbing blocks keeping the truck up and of the ground and then preform the necessary procedures to attempt to complete this drive cycle? <--------- (Please tell me yes, or hey man that's a great idea it'll work) I don't know what else to really to do, i have done the drive cycle on the same year make model truck successfully in the past but for some reason i cant on this one. Anybody think this is an idea to try let me know and thanks for reading this!
Hello again I am writing back to report that this idea 100% worked for me. I first let the truck "cold soak" over night after it was lifted completely off the ground with just under 3/4 fuel in it. The next day the temperature outside was over 40 degrees witch is a must in order for the evap system to run. Note: after further research what i've done seems to fit the Evap bypass route of turning this monitor off. I then got in started the vehicle let it idle for a short period then started rite out with the drive cycle of 45 to 65 mph for 10 minutes. It says you need a steady foot smooth pedal. I however did not have that, i kept it around 55 and i also tried to use the cruise control and that only caused the truck to rev the engine a few times at that point i thought i wasn't going to make this happen so after 7 minutes i grabbed my cheap code reader plugged it in, read it, and the evap monitor was off! I was so excited that it was off to the point of i forgot to continue on and try to turn off the Catalyst monitor off to but in NY Its allowed one on so i really didn't care.. i drove it to the shop got it inspected the very next morning. Thanks to anyone that wrote a reply especially the guy the mentioned the fuel slosh thing. I think that is what would make or break this monitor issue everyone is having. I also hope that someone can use this idea to their advantage in the future. The mechanics at Ford kinda rolled their eyes and pushed it off but the garage down the road said they may even try it, so hey you never know, what do you have to lose! Thanks again!
