exhaust leak at the passenger manifold was common also.. and can easily sound like lifter or valve noise. A mechanics stethoscope might help pin point where the noise is coming from. Check around the exhaust manifolds and look for any black burnt areas around the studs and gasket. if there is any black color, there is a leak. Mine cost $300 at a shop, and that was with 3 broken studs. It was also only noticeable when it was cold, sounded like metal on metal slapping. As soon as it warmed up it sealed itself and went away. Matter fact when I took it to the exhaust shop, he said he couldn't find the leak so I had to leave it there and tell him to let it get cold and start it up..

And I doubt one fill up of 10-30 would have done damage in just a few miles.... I would hope not. Change the oil and try to pin point the sound.

Yeah...my guess would be an leak from the exhaust manifold. I'd check there first....

I got 10W-40 quaker state and motorcraft oil filter in mine right now, works fine (it gets below 60F here, 28F a few days ago). I tried the 5W-20 and it was too thin, made noises when idling. I went back to heavier oil, quieted her right up Truck has 129K on it, so it's bound to have some clearance to allow thicker oil. Mine makes the same noise, as did my 1986, 1996, and does my wifes 09' Hyundai Sonata (it has 5W-20 motorcraft in it right now). If it goes away, maybe not to much to worry about unless you start dropping oil pressure or it does it all the time.

I don't know what to do... stopping for some things tomorow, don't know if I should pick up some oil and filter... I've put 400 miles on it since the change back in Oct. with the 10-30.
