Default Engine temp sensor ?s

ok so I just swapped my 97 5.4 for a 99 5.4 and the question is... The 99 only has one temp sensor where as the 97 has two, one for the computer and one that goes to the dash. So the dash one is not connected but is the single temp sensor sending the right info to the computer? or do I need to replace it with the sensor from the 97?

If you are using your wiring harness and computer, you're going to need to put both sensors in.

the 99 motor doesn't have a place for the sensor that is behind the alternator which i think may be the one for the gauge it has the same threads but it went to a vacuum line that goes to the left side of the throttle body. I screwed the sensor in there but its not reading anything so i will splice into a coolant hose somewhere for that. but the sensor in question is the cht or cylinder head temp sensor that came in the 99's its the same electrical plug as the 97 but i wonder if it is sending the same type of signal to the computer? the truck seems to run ok but i feel like something still isn't right...
