engine swap
When I had my 1999 F-150 5.4L Ford dealer replaced the heads. According what I was told by them, "they had to remove the cab to work on the engine". Seemed strange at the time and the Hayes manual doesn't mention this. But if true it sure would prohibit me from doing this swap. I currently have the 4.2 in a 1998 I inherited from my Dad. It pulls and runs fine. The 5.4 was a kick but IMHO wasn't worth the hassle of changing sparkplugs and had a couple pop out of the head which was expensive... Good luck!
What do you consider fairly easy? You will need the Engine, transmission, PCM and harness from the Lightning. The Drive Shaft will need to be modded. Don't forget the Supercharger cooling system. The 8.8 differential that you have will also take a beating. Lots of folks have done the swap. Most have started from a 4.6 or a 5.4 V8 and not the 4.2.
yea there's no reason why anybody should ever have to pull a cab on a f150 to do anything( except when wrecked) pulling the cab is alot of work you can do anything with it in the cab. imho get a donor truck to swap it all over, if you cant find one, not worth doin it really.. you would spend a TON of money piecing parts together like someone else said, motor, blower set up, trans, wiring harness, pcm, etc etc.. good luck with it, not tryin to talk you out of it just sayin from experince you could easily put too much money in it haha..
Ive talked to people who have done the cab removal method and really once you do it once, its the only way to go.

Now as far as swapping in a 5.4 Supercharged Lightning motor into a truck that had a 4.2, it can be done but there's a myriad of problems you'll have to solve along the way. You'll need the entire drivetrain, the 8.8 rear axle behind a 4.2 won't handle the power at all. You'll also need both Lightning fuse boxes, the Lightning PCM, the Lightning steering column, ignition key, and cluster for the PATS anti theft system.
IIRC there was a member from FL who did the swap without buying a wrecked Lightning truck and it still cost him a bit over $10k at the time (2003).
You do know the 4.2 can be built to handle some fairly impressive power...

depending on where you are, check this place out. they specialize in wrecked cars of all sorts and hold auctions for them all. but I think to bid over $1000, you have to pay the membership fee and become a member http://www.copart.com/c2/homeSearch....=svt+ford+f150
