All 97-03/04 V8's are easy swaps period. Not much to it.

Are you sure about the exhaust? The 4.2 is not a modular engine but it was made with many common characteristics with one being the exhaust. Pull a 4.2 and put in a Coyote and the headers will connect right up to the 4.2 exhaust.

That's just luck River. I know it won't line up going from 4six to 5four. He's going from 5four to 4six tho, not many downsize....might be able to manipulate it somehow. (?)

I take it you have never done this.
Do you even know what a butterfly switch is on the lower intake does or is therefor on an NPI engine?
The 1999 engine was the first year of the PI engine that did away with the butterfly lower intake and the upper is different as well.
The PCM/ECM has a different program for both of these engines and transmission setup that came in these trucks. You just can't change transmission from one to the other as they have different settings inside and on the computer as well from one year to the next. I can't remember the person who did the crossover of PCM's and which ones can work in which Ford setup, but each engine setup and trans was different for each year.

Well nicco0528 ask a question, and I answered them with the correct answer. Did not know you owned the tread or answers to people's questions.

Thanks Brew, I'll bank this info. I was led to believe the only difference between the 4.6 and 5.4 are the deck heights and they use different exhaust manifolds so they line up the same with the exhaust. Live and learn.

Well yes you can.
As was said.
You might have a few small niggles but nothing that can't be overcome.

But a better question is why would you want to?
5.4s arent unicorns.

And the 4.6 for 98 still has two coil packs and plug wires so won't the PCM have an issue with not having 8 little coil packs?

I may be wrong as I have never owned a 5.4.
Not at all as long as OP takes the complete engine and harness with computer and puts all that stuff where it belongs.

It’s where you start mixing and matching stuff, like stonedpony did (I’m pretty sure I told him in his past threads not to mix and match...), that the fit hits the shan, so to speak.
