Default Engine suddenly shut off while driving

Today while driving to get lunch, my 1999 F150 suddenly shut off as if I turned off the engine. I oasted to the side of the road. When this happened, my gauges went to zero. The engine turns over but it will not fire and my gauges still do not work. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Alternator bad? Loose battery connection?

Usually these electrical problems are a B* and have to be diagnosed simply because there's 145,634 different possibilities..

Haven't had that happen yet, but our jetta has done that same thing twice. It was the crank sensor.
