Default Engine Starting Issue

I'm having a problem with my 2001 4x4 Supercrew not starting until the truck cools down. This past weekend I pulled into a parking lot, shut my truck off & went into the store. Got back into the truck, turned the key & it wouldn't start. I let it sit for about 15 min then it fired right up. This has happened a few times already in the last few months. What can be causing this? It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it sucks. I replaced all the coils, spark plugs, pcv valve & fuel filter already.

Have you checked the starter and all connections to it and from the battery. That is where I would start. Also if you take your starter off and test it or have a auto parts store test and it tests ok I would stll disassemble and look for discoloration on the ends of the armature. That would indicate possibly one or more bad bars in the armature and cause the starter to be really weak. Would test good off truck but will not work under load'on the truck'.

If your truck turns over but does not start, I would check the crank shaft sensor and electrical connections to the sensor. The sensor determines the position of the engine thus telling the PCM where and when to send the spark. If it does not get a reading from the sensor, it does not send spark. Yours could be acting up when it gets hot and thus causing problems.

It could also be a number of other things as follows

Dirty air filter (replace if dirty)
MAF Valve (recommend cleaning with MAF cleaner)
Bad engine ground connection (inspect for corrosion and clean ground)
Bad fuel injectors/low fuel pressure (start by replacing fuel filter and clean injectors)

Good luck

Guess I was assuming that it would not turn over.

Truck died on me today while I was driving. I wasn't able to get it started again. Towed it to my buddies & he hooked up a fuel pressure gauge & no pressure. Going to replace the fuel pump & see if that is the problem.

Anyone have the part number for the fuel pump assembly from Motorcraft? Not really sure what the wheel base is on a Supercrew 4x4.
