I replaced the air filter recently and it is not the oil type.

Make sure no air is getting in after the maf. If it started after the mod there's a high chance that it's related. Especially with the silencer removal portion.

Huh, that's strange. I just did the Gotts mod about a month or so ago and haven't really noticed any difference. Then again, I did just get bigger tires too.

My current vehicle, a 2001 F150, was bought in 2012. I've had it for 4 years and 2 months, I put the K&N in it right after I bought it and it now has over 80k miles on that K&N. My MAF is perfectly clean, almost like from the factory. I've never had to clean it or replace it.

When I originally heard the claims, I too thought it was hogwash. Then I ran across this thread. There is a guy that took part in a study of MAF failures using a High Flow filter vs Paper Media. Now, you can take it or leave it. But I feel there's enough evidence presented to support the claim that K&N's do in fact harm your MAF.
K&N claims to have "debunked" these claims against them. But they do all of their testing on a bench in a controlled environment. So it's kind of misleading. The real world where the filter changes temps and environments is where I feel testing needs to be done.

K&N's have been history for along time with my truck. Had to prove it for myself way back when and have. Got tired of the disagreements from people that fall for the hype and don't do their own thorough testing in order to make an ACCURATE determination. I won't argue it anymore, not worth it. They are bad news period.
Glad to see someone stepped up furthering the truth about it. What a farce. Yea, I haven't seen that link , thanks for posting that link white89gt. Post of the year winner.

Tomato tomahto, I guess all of the years I've been running them without one dirty MAF means nothing then, lol. Like I said. The current one has 80,000 miles on it and has been maintained properly and not one speck of dirt on my MAF and the tube is as clean as can be expected for a 15 year old truck. I'd say my vehicles have run the gamut of testing as one in particular faced everything from the humid Georgia summers for years, the Mojave Desert environment and dust storms for 8 months, and the bitter coastal North Carolina winters for three years without issues.

Now I'm not going to sit here and claim it has given me some huge HP gains and MPG gains either, it hasn't. But, it has saved me having to buy filters over the years, which can get pricey when changing your fikter each oil change as recommended. I check the MAF everytime I service this truck, the day I notice any dust getting by this thing or oil on the MAF is the day I'll stop using it. I must've gotten one of those rare working K&N filters.
