Default Engine computer questions

I'm looking for someone that has specific experience with the computers from these trucks... Here's what I'm doing.

Engine swap - 5.4 DOHC from 2003 Navigator into 2002 F150 4.6l/automatic.

Obviously the 03' PCM is not an option due to different bus system

I have a PCM en route from the bay from a 2002 Navigator - which I know won't be plug and pray due to the PATS system. I tried to get a VIN matched set of keys, instrument cluster, and PCM from several sources - some only had certain parts, some would only sell keys with the column, etc.

I also have the Ford IDS tool en route as well - I understand from the Ford documentation it can 'clone' data from one PCM to another.

My thought is to plug the 02' Navi PCM into the 02' F150 and use IDS to 'inhale' (Ford's term in their documentation) the data from the Navi PCM, and exhale it back onto the F150 PCM. Or, use the IDS Programming "As-Built" Feature to flash the F150 PCM with the Navigator's build data. Again, all theory at this time until I can get my hands on the IDS tool to see what it can actually do.

As a backup plan, and here's where my questions come in - I'm going to purchase a spare 99-02 F150 PCM in case I royally screw up and end up bricking both PCM's. Is there any physical difference between v6/v8, auto/manual, 2wd/4x4 pcms, or are they all basically the same and just reflashed with the correct configuration?

If nothing else I'll just pull my 02's PCM out and try to match the part number.

I'm interested in this also. I'm planing on doing a swap like this in the next year so any information I can learn will help in parts gathering.

Just to post the conclusion to this thread - I was able to accomplish getting the 5.4 DOHC ECM working in my truck. All I did was plug in the 2002 Navigator ECM, a 99 Navigator cluster (didn't have to be a Navigator specific cluster, I could've reused my F150 cluster and been just fine, I just went with the Navigator cluster for looks) and flashed the cluster to the ECM using Forscan. The software prompted me to erase the existing keys and create two new keys, which I couldn't do thanks to the cheap chinese interface device I was using. However, I have a handheld key programmer that had no issues programming two new keys to the setup. So now I have a proper 5.4 DOHC computer, cluster, and two keys ready to go.

Now to pull the drivetrain out of the 03' Navigator and get it ready to swap.
