Default Engine acted like it flooded? WTH

I was driving about 60 mph down the highway and went to pass a car, I gunned it and the truck sputtered and started dying. I got to the side of the road and sat there listening to it. It kept sputtering, lights fading and coming back rpms bouncing a little then it died. My wife and I could both smell gas so I let it sit for about 30 secs and started it back up. Ran fine the whole way home at 67-70 mph. Would it have flooded, Ive only had it a week and this happens...I had a topped off tank of gas. New to ford trucks so any ideas??

I'd check the codes. That will give you a direction to go. Sounds like it could be the EGR sensor but the codes will give us the cause. Until then, we can give you a hundred different possibilities, and would probably be wrong on 99 of them. List any codes, and we can dissect the problem (s) associated.
