Default Emission testing and running an EDGE/Gryphon..

I know this has been asked, and this isn't the same situation..

From everything I read, you leave your truck TUNED, but unplug the cord from the OBD port. And get tested because they use the OBD port.

Now, if you set it to stock, or unplug the battery it can/will toss a P1000 code which is a drive cycle code and you have to drive a certain amount of miles to get rid of it. Because it's letting the computer relearn everything.

Now.. my situation is that mine has been on the same tune for over a month, if not longer and well over 1000miles worth of driving, and battery hasn't been disconnected for a good while and when I got tested.. they told me my OBD port wasn't ready to read. And when I went inside to talk to the guy he had told me "my trucks been serviced recently and it needs to be driven to let computer relearn" which it hasn't, but I'm assuming the tuner somehow triggered that P1000 code? Or could it be something else?

I drove 125miles today and was thinking of trying to get it tested again tomorrow, but I'm hesitant to see if it's enough or not. If you fail twice, you have to go through some BS to get it registered which I have no idea what is involved with that.

So, any ways that will forsure let me pass? I don't have any codes, I still have cats all that good stuff. A guy on another forum said I shouldn't have had that happened if I only unplugged it from OBD port. But said check my cigerate lighter fuse since it's for data also, and I pulled it and it was fine. I replaced it with a new 1 anyways. But now is that going to reset it also and I need to drive more?

What a PITA...

When I got my edge cs it came with a little CARB compliant sticker and in my manual it just says present it to the tester and I should have no trouble, now I just keep it in my glove box of I ever get asked about it.

Something must have tripped the P1000 code. Have you made ANY adjustments to the Edge? Any at all? Changed tire size? Any of the custom settings?
Maybe simply unplugging, or plugging it back in, it threw the code?

I screwed up the day before I went to get mine tested. Not thinking, I adjusted some custom settings. Had to go back the next day and passed no problem, on #2 setting.
Also never plugged it back in from the day before, while I drove the miles to clear the P1000 code, if that makes any difference.

Like I said, I haven't touched it for atleast a good 2months and drove over 1,000miles. For some reason when I do eff with my Gryphon it locks my PCM.. it's dumb.

But I only adjusted my settings after I got my PCM unlocked, os atleast 2 months and 1,000miles worth of driving. Battery might have been disconnected like 2 weeks ago, but have atleast 600 miles on it...

So unplugging it MUST of triggered the code.. It sucks. I wanted to pass, and not worry.

Only time it's been unplugged since I have PCM unlocked and adjusted. So hell if I know. I just hope these 150 miles I drove in last 2 days cleared it. I have NOT plugged it back in, it's been left unplugged. Autozone read my OBD port and it showed no DTC's.. so I hope it's good. I don't know if P1000 would show up or not? My buddy said his Xcal3 didn't show P1000 code but he still had it.

I'm going to go Fri morning... so hopefully I pass and done for 2yrs..

Hopefully leaving it unplugged does the trick. I have never seen the code show up anywhere, not sure if it even does.
When I had mine done, my mechanic plugged his reader into the port, and it had 6 lights that went from green to read. I guess it's a tester to see if it's ready before plugging it into the big computer.
Based on there were 4 of 6 lights that were green, he told me it was probably within 20 miles of being ready to go.
I set his tester on the floor and went for a drive, when all of the lights were green I went back.It was good to go then.

Interesting dude....

I know some of mine were, "READY" but 2? weren't.. so I'm heading there this morning and see what happens! I just don't want to deal with it anymore. Ha.

Thanks for the help though. Maybe the 6 lights your talking about is what I had.. so 150 miles should of done the trick.

I hate smog....with a passion

I would return the truck to stock, unplug the edge, disconnect the battery for thirty minutes, and drive the truck at least 30 miles. I think that will reset everything, and you shouldn't have any codes.

I drove over 200 miles and it wasn't ready AGAIN. Now I'm locked out of their system and have to get in contact with some air quality bs. Which they don't answer, you leave a voicemail and they call you...

Returning it to stock isn't going to do anything I don't imagine because 4 of the things are ready from the paper it shows me. If I understand it correctly, so returning it back to stock would just cause me to go over all this again I assume...

But still, I have to wait for these people to contact me back so I can do the test.. what a PITA. Stupid smog.

You're right. Returning it to stock would start the process all over again. But it may be worth a try if you are going to log the miles anyhow.

My mechanic told me that having it set on any tune wouldn't matter. It won't make it fail whether it's on 1,2,or 3.

I'm clueless. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

I got in contact with ADEQ... they basically do what they do at emissions and read my OBD port and let me know if it's ready or not. After doing what they say to get rid of drive cycle it still wasn't ready. Once it's ready they unlock me from the system and I can take emissions again, still not guaranteed to pass though.

I need my EVAP and EGR monitor to read, either 1 is fine, but he said EVAP comes on before EGR, and EVAP is hard to get to read..... basically need my tank of gas at 1/2, not less, not much more and drive like that. So of course that happens after I just filled up.

He was saying how it's just bs anymore, month ago AZ changed it from 2 not ready, to having to have it down to 1 not ready monitor for emissions. He had told me he had same problem with his Expedition and even had it on the dyno with scan tool measuring temps and couldn't set it off.. 1 lady drove 5 weeks, still wasn't ready. I hope that's not how it will be for me.

If I can't pass by 15th... I HAVE to still drive my truck because if I don't I'll never clear the code. Ha....... So now I'm debating on whether I should keep driving it til 1/2, and just drive, drive, drive and keep it at 1/2. Or reset back to stock and disconnect battery and try all over. But he said if I do that, it's going to reset the drive cycle again and I have to redo all this, and it could take longer.

I asked this on POWERHUNGRYPERFORMANCE and hope Bill reads my post. I'm curious as to if maybe his custom tune isn't letting my computer read the last 2 monitors somehow and I should reset back to stock or if not, just keep driving. So we will see what happens.... what a PITA this is.
