I bought a universal elm327 odb-II reader tat connects to my laptop. It works great on my 02 buick and 03 olds but will not connect to my 1997 Ford F-150. I thought they would be compatible for anything after 1996. Is it not compatible and do i need a different type reader?

I bought one of the cheap universal bluetooth ones off ebay to use with my Android phone and it connects fine to my truck..

 

I think I have the same one and it works on my 1997

 

No I do not have a resolution. I asked a garage that I use if they could read the truck and it read just fine. They did tell me they did have problems in the past and they had to send their very expensive reader back to the company to have updated so it would read all fords. I have used the reader several times on other vehicles but no luck on my Ford. Sorry,
