Electrical grimmlens
I have 2001 f150 lariat. When I open tbe door there is no light and when I put the key in there's no dinging.on the insterment panel the turn signal arrows are lit upand so is the high beem indicator. Even with no key in or on. The truck runs but I have no window or lock function. No A/C heater controls. At the fuse box the battery saver relay is hot and clicking along with the interior light relay, its not hot but it's clicking too. Can someone help with this issue? Please and thank you.
There's a common problem with these trucks from water getting under the dash where the GEM Module and fuse box are at. I don't know if this is your problem but what you describe sounds a lot like troubles I had with a 10 gen except I also had occasional starting problems. I took it all apart, cleaned out the wet, packed in dust or mold, whatever it was and dried everything out and it solved the problem. It was a PITA to do. The cables are just long enough, thick and don't want to move and as said, it's all under the dash.
your symptoms are similar to something i experienced recently - there is a ground wire that runs from the dash down the drivers side kick panel and connects to the body near the floor of the cab - mine was connected to rusty metal and not making a good connection - i noticed when it was completely disconnected that i had some of the issues you are seeing but the truck would not run more than a couple seconds before shutting itself off - i was also getting clicky relays, occasionally drained battery, abs and air bag lights and codes - relocated ground wire to solid metal and everything cleared up
Thank you for the information. I'll give it a shot. I have an appointment to put it in the shop. I'll check out your lead first. Hopefully you can save me from paying way to much for a bad ground. Thanks again, I'll let you know.
Yes, same issue with my '04 FX4. The metal behind the passenger kick panel where the fuse box is, completely rusted out around the ground wire lug. Caused all kinds of wacky stuff!
Cut the rusted lugs off, find a solid place in the metal, sand off a little paint to bare metal, drill a hole, replace the lugs and bolt. Also, you'll probably find the wire is oxidized too, so try to clean it off with some emery paper before you put the new lugs on.
Word to the wise: after doing all of this, I went to start the truck, assuming I had resolved the issue, and the truck wouldn't start.
After panicking for a few minutes that I screwed something else up, I figured out that I had managed to bump the emergency fuel cutoff switch, located right behind the fuse box, in the process. Pressed the reset plunger on the top and she started right up,
