Thumbs down Electrical gremlins.

Have 11 month old battery in 99 F150 that is dying in a few days. Problem is the truck is shut off and key removed. Later happened when wife noted radio on after 2 days but truck started. Truck is being recharged on 2 amp each time. Now when I charge it I can hear the blower and radio if on. They are off when truck shut off. Truck obviously used little. Battery place recommended to check truckfirst. Posted earlier in different format but not sure where. Advanced CRS. Recommmendations welcome, thanks, Mac

I'm guessing it has rained hard lately? Does your truck sit outside? Those are signs that the GEM is going wonky from water/corrosion. Cause is typically from a leaky windshield. Getting it resealed and letting them GEM dry out on it's own without removal can sometimes resolve the problem.

Not a cheap fix, around 8 bills from Ford.

Question

Update: Having had monsoons recently I was hopeful truck would dry out and start. But alas, The truck won't make any noise and the battery tests at 11 volts plus. I noted while changing the brakes that I got a shock so I unhooked the battery, checked the connections and reconnected. Still nothing. Will crawl under tomorrow to look for ground. Could it be a fuse somewhere. Thanks in advance.

11 volts is too low to start. That battery is either severely undercharged or dead. Put a charger on it?

When you turn the key to accessory do you get anything? Radio, lights...etc?

Fuse is not likely. As I stated, the gem is the culprit for your description, especially with monsoon type rains! Anything is possible though.

^^^^Agreed... A good charged battery should read 12.6 volts with the key off. 11 volts is not a fully charged battery.

Un update: B-I-L looked at truck and when wifee said radio was on at 04:30 he knew immediately it was modular unit. He works at parts store and is mechanical whiz retired. Now to find mechanic to do job. I'm incapable of doing it. BTW: battery is without question dead now. Charger seized up also. Would dump truck but I like it too much.
Thanks,
mc
