Default Electic windows

It is so hard to find an XLT standard tranny SWB single cab and those nice people that do have them want around $9k-10$ for 1999-2002 year models!

So I would think it would be easier in the long run for me to buy an XL and swap the cluster and windows out rather than convert an auto trans to stick, right?

So my question is: if I bought a pair of doors off an XLT what else would I need to get power windows and door locks? I have heard that there is some sort of module in the dash that controls them, is this correct?

And THEN run two hots from the box to the driver door and loop to the passenger door or am I way off base here?

Bump.....

Anyone tried this yet? One 18g hot for the elec windows and one for the elec locks and then loop to the passenger side with one wire for each and ground to the door?

Also, can someone recommend a good automotive wiring book?

I am not a big fan of power windows and locks on any vehicle but I am a fan of manual transmissions.
Power junk is nothing but trouble and in some cases death traps.
Some people will say I am nutty for saying that but unless they have been a safety engineer and accident investigator for 8 years, they are not experts. One drowning accident and one burning to death accident investigated and one trapped arm, attributed to power windows and locks is all I need not to like them. Too bad there were more than one of each I had to investigate. Safety features? Yea, they usually fail too when you least want them to. About 3,000 vehicles are immersed each year in the US and about 300 people die. About 15% of all fire fatalities are in vehicles.
I post this because I do not any of you to be one of those people.

Default Any updates?

I'm interested in doing something similar. Recently bought a 2003 XL Scab and was thinking it might just be easier to swap doors from an XLT to get me power windows/locks but I'm not sure how it would all plug in and was hoping maybe you had done the upgrade and had some words of advice? I was wondering also how to add the remote for the door locks, if that would be possible or if aftermarket would be the better option. Hoping to hear some good news :-)
