EGR question
For a while now my truck has been shaking and shuddering at around 45 miles per hour about the same time it drops into 3rd gear and the rpms go to about 1500 (all being normal except the shaking of course). I have also noticed a low/rough idle that came at the same time. Recently my check engine light started flashing at random times. I have no vacuum leaks. Not misfiring as I have just changed out 5 plugs and 1 cop. I went to the auto parts place today to turn off the check engine light (misfire codes and bad cop code) and told him my situation. He told me that he had a similar problem and it was his egr. He said he replaced the egr and the dpfe or egr pressure sensor and everything went back to normal. He also mentioned that the blinking engine light was a result of bad emissions that would be from a bad egr.
My question is, does my situation sound typical of a bad egr? I have replaced the dpfe to no effect. As I stated before my engine is no longer missing that I am aware of tho with the low idle and shaking it feels like it from time to time. I also have no vacuum leaks. The throttle body is clean as well.
My truck is a 98 F150 Lariat 4x4 5.4L if that helps.

the cel flashing is due to a misfire...it's letting you know basically that the engine misfire can cause damage to the converter, and to drive at low speeds until you resolve the problem...could the shaking be due to a bad universal joint, low tire pressure, unbalanced tires? i was having egr issues recently and got all the parts from a u pull and save junkyard for 20 bucks..
your obd is more or less designed to show problems with the emissions systems, and therefore if it's not giving you a code for the egr, it's very unlikely that it's the problem...check your tires and u joints first...
it would probably be a good idea to change the rest of the spark plugs too..maybe the wires while you're at it..i just did the wires on mine and they were in terrible shape..it's a 98 4.6...
