Default drum brake locking up after going in reverse

Hi, I have a 97 v6 manual f150 and every now and then after I back up my rear passenger side drum locks up on me. After it locks up I can go backwards just fine but going forwards it's locked. My e-brake is fine and retracts as it should. I've gone many weeks with out using it so I've ruled that out.Anyone have any idea what it could be?

Thanks

your mergency break might be releasing inside the cab but not on the drum also check your rubber hose on the back brakes they could be swelling shot not allowed the breaks to release properly

Self adjusters. When you reverse and hit the brakes they self adjust. Sounds like yours over did it and got hung up. Take it apart and see, - very easy to check.

After the brake locked up on me I stopped using my e brake and it happened again so I don't think that's it. I'm going to get a rebuild kit and see if that helps thanks!

It's possible one of the pins that hold the shoe to the backing plate has broken. In reverse it will cause the lock up you are having. The backing plate could also have some wear marks that can cause the shoes to lock up.

I replaced all the drum components except for the shoes and cylinder. I also sanded the backing plate. As I'd now it's working fine but I'll have to see what happens in the coming weeks.
