Default Drove a newer F-150


Helping a friend move. Drove his 2020 with eco-boost. Lots of power, almost too abrupt. Nice Truck, not $48,000 more than mine nice. Still very nice.

Got a chuckle out of your post, Tundra. Couldn't agree with you more. I know that our trucks have 20+ years old technology, but the newer ones have some stuff I just find weird. Like that yellow plastic oil drain plug that you remove by hand. No wrench needed. I'm getting old, but that just seems off to me. One other thing. I get comments from other drivers quite often, asking what year my truck is and admiring the shape it's in. Wouldn't get that if I bought a brand new truck. Folks would expect it to be in good shape. Who doesn't like to get a shout-out every now and again?

I agree. My truck is in great shape. I'm in the process of getting a Ford reman. engine installed after the original one finally gave up at 432k miles. I don't like the new ones enough to spend that kind of money. Plus, I seriously doubt that they'll last to 400k. Ford also kind of lost me on the aluminum bodies. If you look down the sides, they are very wavey. Looks like somebody did bad body work.😆

nameskreen, I'm thinking with that kind of mileage you must live in a part of the country where they don't use road salt. If I had 400k on mine, the doors and body would have disintegrated long ago; I'd be driving a convertible. As I'm retired now, I garage my truck for the winter and my wife and I share her 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe (that's a whole other story). With covid and a cold snowy winter, we've only put about 1200 miles on in the past nine months. Here's hoping the world returns to normal soon!

I actually live in Pa. Outside of Philly. I had the rockers and bottoms of the doors replaced. It's a SuperCrew so the bed is fiberglass, but the rails under the bed are rusting. The frame is in great shape though.

My 2000 just turned over 95,000 miles. With only surface rust on the frame and not being my every day driver it will likely outlive me.

Hard to beat the ecoboost power and the plug/play ability to add on features using forscan. I've transformed our xl into an xlt for the most part. gauges are the only item left to swap out. If you take care of it they seem to run pretty well. we had transmission problems and airbag problems at the start but have gotten most of that cleared up. don't have a plastic oil pan drain plug . I've had the same trailer and same contents in it since 2008 and the ecoboost with the 6 spd pulls it just as well as my 04.5 cummins on 35's. mpg's have always sucked once we got rid of the crappy stock tires. anything over 70 and you're looking at 14-15.5 mpg. I do like the relative "ease" to replace things on the old 5.4l, and I've fixed a lot on ours. But the 2013+ forum has a lot of good answers to get items diagnosed and fixed there as well.

I did see a TFL youtube yesterday where they threw on a 5 star can tune for a 2018 or so 3.5 gen 2 4x4 crew cab and gained something like 90 hp and 140 tq with premium. They did a track based, 4x4 high 0-60 and hit 4.36 which is stupid fast.

spyder982, from your profile I can see you're an F150 guy (but how did that Trans Am get in there?). It's always great to hear from guys who've had experience with newer F150s than the generation 10. Tundra, judging from the pic., your rig likely will outlast you (unless you're 16 years old). And no yellow plastic drain plug...

Yeah if you love the torque feel of a diesel, but don't want to pay for a diesel, the ecoboost is for you. If I remember correctly, it makes 90% of it's torque at 2k rpms and pulls hard all the way up the rpm band. You really won't want a N/A engine again once you get used to that power.

Trans am was purchased new by my dad in 1978 while he was in high school. He's kept it basically all original or replaced with oem style parts. He gifted it to me after it sat covered for a long number of years (guessing 10). We worked on it some together and got it running and I moved it to my place to continue driving and fixing. 64k miles, Pontiac 400 WS6 package. He was a fanatic about it, so I have the original sales docs, the service manual even the receipt from the bank where he wrote the check for it. Runs pretty good! I've been driving my 4 year old daughter around in it now for a few years to start getting her into the car world. I think it's working as she's helped me fix a lot of things on our 01 Crew Cab - whether it's climbing under the truck to change the oil or up in the engine bay to plug up the intake holes while doing the upper intake manifold she always hangs around a bit to see what is happening/help.

As it sat for probably a decade. They would start it and let it idle for 20 mins or so but never move it.
