Default drive shaft

Hey I recently got my u joints replaced and the guy beat up my drive shaft. My truck stopped squeaking when I go in reverse but now it vibrates when I drive on the highway. The drive shaft has a dent in it and the yoke is beat up. Could I get it balanced or will I need a new one since it is dented? If I need to get a new one will one from a 98 work? I have a 2000 4x4. The one I found says 97 - 99, is there a difference between the drive shafts?

Thanks

My Drive Shaft has a sticker that says scrap if dropped so if it's got a dent in it just replace it and don't even think about letting the mechanic get away with disabling your truck without paying for it. That's BS.

Yeah I guess I'll need a new drive shaft. Does anyone know if a drive shaft from any year would work? Should I not drive my truck until it is fixed? This is my daily driver but i can only feel it vibrate slightly if i drive at highway speeds.

C'mon, did you or your friend do the damage? How else would you know? The guy would never tell you "oh by the way I beat the crap out of your drive shaft". Not a big deal, happens to everyone now and then. Buy a new drive shaft. I had to buy a new drive shaft on a British sports car because the U joints were rust welded to the shaft, and nothing would loosen them. I swear the car drove better and smoother. Whoever sells it to you will have a listing for the proper type for your truck transmission and engine. You can check prices and fitment on the web.
