double din poor fitment

GO SOX!
As mandingo said, "It is." the trim ring in the Scosche kit wouldn't fit due to the motorized face. Since these pics were taken, I've trimmed the surround a bit at the top, and the weatherstrip isn't "stuffed in" any more. It looks almost as good as plastic.
And I found the pic of my mounting method. Much like mandingo's.

I didn't see where it was a drop down front face. Oops, my bad. The kits don't fit those too well or not at all, depending on the head. That is where the plastic panel mod and cut to your radio would be a benefit.
I had to do that with my Mustang when I removed the oem Navi head and replaced it with an Android this fall. The Android didn't fit a full as the oem, so I used the panel cut trim design to make my dash match and fill out the radio hole. I used one that matched the interior plastics perfectly and being 3/32" thick, isn't flimsy or easily damaged.

If the weatherstrip begins to bug me, I might see if the ABS plastic option would work for me along the sides.
As for the OP, I still have no idea why his is setting so high in the hole of the surround, though I have heard that some people do need to trim the bottom of the hole (in the dash, that is) a little bit.
